[OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The wedding took place in the Church of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday last of Mary, third daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Thorne, to Harry Couison.' The Rev. Father Seymour performed the ceremony, the newly married couple later leaving for Nelson where the honeymoon will be spent.

Mrs R. Patterson was a visitor to Greymouth for the week-end. Miss Fahmy Dargan is visiting Waiuta as the guest of Mrs Nohra.

Mr and Mrs J. Stewart were visitors from Nelson, during the week. Mrs Broderick (Wallsend) was a visitor for the week-end. A children's plain and fancy dress ball was held on Thursday evening last when there was about. 90 children present. All spending a happy evening. A dainty supper was served by the ladies' committee of the Rugby Queen candidate committee and the music was supplied by Mr R. Whi'e (senr). and Mr A. Purton. with extras by Mrs Ord and Miss D. White, while Mr Roy Bartlett acted as M.C. Prizes were won as follows:—Girls under eight years: Bunty Harvey "Chicken” 1. Noeline Magee “Cupid” 2, Rosie Rule “Fairy” 3. Waiuta has experienced some rough weather during the last week. Rain, hail and snow making conditions underfoot; anything but pleasant, and spoiling any attempt at outdoor work or sport.

A successful dance was held by the Cricket Committee on Saturday evening, music was supplied by Mrs Ord with numerous extras by Misses L. Harris and A. Brough and Messrs Stan and Alan Purton. Mr F. Thorne was M.C. A sports meeting was held on Monday afternoon by the Sports Club in aid of the Cricket Queen candidate. The weather was against the Club, but nevertheless the gathering was a great success. The running events were postponed owing to the greasy nature of the ground, but the chopping events were keenly contested, and some close goes were recorded. The tearooms, which were well patronised, were run by Mrs Tomlinson, assisted by Misses Kennedy and Tomlinson, other stall-holders being: Cookery, Mesdames Rose and Anderson; Drapery, Mrs Beckwith; Toys, Mrs Scott; Soft drinks and sweets, Misses Thorne, Cameron and Kirby. A Baby Show was held in conjunction with the bazaar, the result being: Over nine months. Jean Lewis, aged 13 months. 1; Joyce Green 2; over six months and under nine months, Pauline Routledge. aged nine months. 1; Edna Houghton 2.
