CAPONE’S CONVICTION. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] CHICAGO. October 27. The United States Circuit Court of Appeals has granted Al Capone a writ supersedeas, thus delaying his removal to a penitentiary, but has denied the gangster leader bail, thereby forcing him to remain in the County Gaol without shortening his later penitentiary sentence, until he learns the result of his appeal on the latter sentence, which is to be presented to the United States Supreme Court. At Washington, the Government has requested the Supreme Court to reject an appeal from a three year sentence on the part of Al Capone’s brother, who was also convicted of failing to pay income tax. FRENCH IMPORTS PARIS, October 28. Following the farmers’ protests, the Government has prohibited the importation of tinned meats, butter and several other products. j ' GOLD FOR FRANCE PARIS, October 28. The Bank of France has received a record shipment of gold, valued at thirteen millions sterling, from New York.
