MURDER IN OFFICE

POLICE BADGES ON GANGSTERS. NEW YORK, September 11. A startling gangster murder which, declare the police, has thrown into their hands important evidence of the ramifications of a ring engaged in smuggling aliens into - the United, States, took place here yesterday afternoon. The murderers, who wore police badges, entered a big building in the centre of New York, and invaded the offices of Salvatore Maranzano. After lining the clerks and customers against the wall, they burst into Maranzano’s private room and killed him. Only on Tuesday last, nineteen arrests were made of people alleged to be engaged in smuggling aliens into the United States. Some 8,000 aliens • are estimated to have been smuggled in recently, and Federal officials have been making a big drive against a ring alleged to be responsible.—Reuter.
