The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe arrived at Dunedin yesterday and will remain there till Saturday, when' they will return north. — Press Assn. . . . : Miss J. Clarke arrived yesterday on a holiday visit to Greyxnouth. Mrs A. Smith returned 'yesterday from Rotorua. , ■» Sister Braidwood, of the staff of the Grey River Hospital, returned yesterday from Christchurch. Mr Ernest Short, of Wellington will arrive this afternoon, and will be the guest of Mrs C. McQueen, Oipoto Road. Mr C. McGinley, and Miss A. McGinley left yesterday for Nelson, to attend the marriage of Mr L. McGinley and Miss M. Kincaid. Mr W. Armstrong, who has been visiting Greymouth, returned to Nelson, to-day. He was accompanied by his parents, Mr and Mrs A. S. L. * Armstrong. Mr. Reginald Sheen, of the 1926 (Australia) and 1928 (South Africa) All Blacks, will leave on Friday by the Port Alma, on transfer to Collins Bros’, head office, Glasgow.—“ Star” Speecial Service. . ' The condition of Mrs C. Rugg, who was admitted to the Greymouth Hospital on Monday afternoon, suffering from concussion and shock, was reported by the hospital authorities today to be about the same. The funeral .of. the late Mr Walter ♦ James took place at the Ahaura Cemetery this afternoon. The services at the Church of England, Ahaura, and at the graveside, were, conducted by the Rev. G. Barker.
The wedding took place at St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Monday, of Donald James, third son of Captain and Mrs. J. T. Williams, Te Kinga, to Iza Elaine (Molly), third daughter of Mrs. P. Heeney, Te Kinga, and the late Mr. Henry Jackson of Jacksons, Otira Line. A Blenheim telegram announced the death of Mr Edward Tregear at Picton, aged 88. He was ex-secretary of Labour, and Registrar of Industrial Unions in 1900. He was secretary for eleven years of the Polynesian Society. He retired from the Government Service in 1911. —Press Assn. Mr. S. G. Smith, ex-Minister of Labour, has been appointed as chairman of committees of the House of Representatives, a position he formerly held. Mr. W. A. Bodkin resigned in his favour, at the Prime Minister’s request. Guests at Revington’s include: — Messrs D. Masefield (Wellington), A. T. Sellers, C. E. Pethybridge, S. H. Provost, S. Hollobon (Christchurch), C. E. Newhouse (Wellington), W. Brosgarth (Sydney), H. Roads (Auckland), G. Patterson (Dunedin), H. L. Young (Palmerston North), T. Cagney (Hokitika). The Rev. J. K. Archer, who is the Labour candidate for the Kaiapoi electorate, has resigned his position as pastor of the Colombo Street Baptist Church, Christchurch. He has been minister of the church for more than twelve years, and in the Baptist Ministry in various churches for over thirty years. He proposes now to devote his time to the Labour movement.
