SIMBA’S PURCHASE PRICE

The “Daily Telegraph” states that the Collector of Customs is making exhaustive enquiries concerning the amount of primage duty paid on the mystery New Zealand racehorse Simba. The newspaper states that if duty is not in accordance with the purchase price, interesting developments are likely. PRAETOR ALSO MISSING. / SYDNEY, July 3. Private advices here assert that the missing New Zealand • racehorse Simbas’ sale price was about two thousand pounds. Another New Zealand horse, Praetor, is being sought by the local registrar of Racehorses. Both Simba and Praetor arrived in Sydney during the last two months.

Mrs. W. Murrell, one of the most accomplished horsewomen in Victoria, the wife of W. Murrell, the cross-coun-try jockey, was prevented by the stewards from riding at the Bacchus Marsh races to-day. Mrs. Murrell was to ride Erldunda, in the Hunter’s Hurdle Race, and was ready to take her place in the field, when the stewards informed her that they were opposed to women riders competing. Erldunda opened favourite in the race, but her owners withdrew the mare, and bets were declared off. _ & vA
