OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. Zane Grey’s first talkie, “Lone Star Ranger,” loaded with, thrills, will be finally screened to-night. WEDNESDAY. The so-called divorce problem has had many expositions at the hands oi dramatists and scenarists, but perhaps never before from the amazing v iew - point of “The Divorcee,” Norma Shearer’s new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer talking vehicle, to be screened at Wednesday’s matinee, evening, and Thursday. Remaining distinctly human, with no tinge of the academic, the picture casts a new light on modern divorce, and incidentally affords Miss Shearer one of the most startling, as well as the most charming roles of her career. GREYMOUTH FRIVOLITIES. To-night in the Town Hall, the Greymouth Frivolities will present a variety entertainment, calculated to appeal to all. Mr A. A. Rouse, a comedian already well and favourably known to the public, will be heard in comic songs, and Messrs Wilde and Coll, who, with their whimsicalities and comicalities have Scored such great hits in previous concerts, will appear in a most amusing sketch, “At the Theatre.” Mr Alf. Pratt, one-time champion strong man of his weight in Australia, will giwe a demonstration of weight-lifting, and ball-punch-ing. Mr Pratt wil also have bricks placed on his body, and will allow them to be broken with an axe. This will no doubt prove one of the most popular acts of the evening. Mr Bertram Potts, the well-known big game hunter, will give a vivid account of his many thrilling experiences, and Miss B. Ogden, M.L.A.C., will air her views on “Women's Suffrage.” Miss Mavis Burgoyne and Miss Dorothy Thwaites, the well-known dancing teachers, will appear in solo dances, and the pupils of each will give ballet dances. Miss Patti Marshall, Miss Ella Robertson, and tiny Baby Austin, all talented performers, will appear in solo dances. With the above talent the dancing will no doubt prove a great attraction-: Mrs C. Moss and Messrs J. Hadland and A. Nicholson, prominent Greymouth vocalists, will be heard in vocal numbers, which should appeal to all lovers of good music. Restieaux’s Orchestra of twelve instruments will provide music throughout the evening, and Mrs H. C. Murch will be official accompanists. The programme as advertised is most attractive, and a packed house seems assured. ST. JOHN’S SHOW After the spell of fine weather a goofi display of blooms shopld be on view at St. John’s Chrysanthemum Show, which will be held in St. John’s Hall on Thursday, May 14. A Rose Bowl has been donated for the exhibitor gaining the most points in the Chrysanthemum section, and a trophy for the champion bloom. A feature of St, John’s shows is the decorative work and this year an increased interest is shown in this section, for which trophies are provided. Messrs Breeze and Yarrel from Hokitika are the judges in the cut flower section, OLD STUDENTS’ BALL. The second annual ball of the Grey mouth Technical High School Old Students’ Association will be held in Schaef’s Hall to-night, and the dance promises to be one of the most successful of the season. Steel’s orchestra will supply the music, and both modern and old time dances will figure on the programme. An energetic committee has charge of the arrangements and patrons are assured of an enjoyable entertainment.
