OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. George O’Brien, Fox star, learned to rope and ride trona. George Merchant, a cowboy policeman, who was a member of the San Francisco Police Force when George’s father, Daniel O’Brien, was Chief of Police. There George practised until he could ride and rope 1 with the best of the force. Later he became a picture actor., well equipped for his starring part in “The Iron Horse.” Again in “Three Bad Men,” O’Brien was at home on a jtiorse and swinging a lariat and now, once more, in the title role of “The Lone Star Ranger,” Zane Grey’s first all-talking picture to be screened to-night and Tuesday. “Glorifying the American Girl” will be screened at Blackball to-night and Tuesday. CIVIC BAND CONCERT. An enjoyable concert was given under ideal weather conditions in the grounds of the Greymouth Hospital yesterday by the Civic band under the conductorship of Mr A. McMasters. The programme rendered was: Hymn, “Jesu, Lover of My Soul”; March “Invercargill”; selection, “Irish Beauties”; cornet solo, “The Bostonian Polka,” Waltz “The Druids’ Prayer”; selection, “Favourite Melodies”; march “Loyal Hearts”; “God Save the King.” BLAKETOWN DANCE. Every week bigger crowds attend the Blaketown weekly old-time dance. To-night, Reg. McDonald will be at the piano. The floor is in first class order. Dance to start at 8.30.
