COAST EROSION
TROUBLE IN LANCASHIRE. Thousands of tons of pitch are being used to combat the inrush of the sea, which has altered the Mersey estuary coast-line of Lancashire, caused the collapse and demolition of houses and roads over a large area at Blundellsands and Hightown and is now attacking a main road and property worth many thousands of pounds. Houses threatened by collapse are still occupied by optimistic tenants, who believe that the buttle with the sea will not be won by nature. One house, which cost £9OOO to build a few years ago, was sold recently for £250 to a man who said he was willing to take a, chance against its collapsing. Ho is not yet convinced that be has had the best of the bargain.
