The Winnipeg Wheat Pool members have been given the right to suspend their pool contracts and to sell their grain in the open market after June 1, by a decision of the Board of Directors. Grain pooling has now been placed on a voluntary basis. WAR DEBTS. WASHINGTON, May 8. . At the group meeting to-day of the World Chamber of Commerce Congress here, both the British and .German representatives made definite statements expressing sentiments that the United States should yield regarding the reduction of war debts. Mr Bell, of Lloyd’s Bank, said he felt that the United States might take rather a larger, rather a kinder, and better attitude as a creditor nation.. ANGLO-RUSSIAN DEBTS. LONDON, May 7. The Anglo-Russian debt negotiations have reached a deadlock, and . the British members of the Sub-Committee have decided to report to the Joint Committee that further progress is impossible owing to the Soviet representatives’ refusal to give definite answers. Mr Henderson (Foreign Minister) twice since Apirl 29, has stated in tht House of Commons that the progress of the negotiations was disappointing. He is now exerting pressure to keep the Committee at work. MADEIRAN REFUGEES _ RUGBY, May 8. H.M.S. London, in which during the recent revolt in Madeira, insurgent officers and some civilians took refuge, has arrived at Portsmouth. It was ascertained that the Governor of Madeira played the game, despite his age. Refusing to fly and take refuge, he locked himself up when the Lisbon forces resumed control. The total casualties were six killed. A house was wrecked by shells. GLASGOW BY-ELECTION. LONDON, May 8. WASHINGTON, May 8. The resolutions of the Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce to-day approved a resolution proposing a world conference on the depressed price of silver. U.S.A. WHEAT. WASHINGTON, May 8. The Department of Agriculture announced that, the condition of winter wheat on May 1 was 90.3 per cent, of normal, indicating a yield of 16.1 bushel per acre, and a total 1931 crop of 652,902,000 bushels, compared with 604 millions in 1930. JUGO-SLAVIAN LOAN. . PARIS, May 8. The French Ministry of Finance announces that the foreign banks are underwriting the Jugo-Slavian loan to stabilise the dinar.
