MILTON ROAD.

[to the editor.] Sir,— Reading Mr Lawn’s letter of thanks, to th® electors of Greymouth, tor Returning him to the Council, I notice that he writes “that he will endeavour to see that the ratepayers’ money will he more equally divided.” I hope that he will use his influence to have a few pounds spent on Milton Road. There are eleven ratepayers in the top end of this street, who contribute Over‘£llo per year in rates, and have not even a footpath to walk on. In wet weather, the long grass, rushes, etc., make it necessary to walk on the road, where motor traffic is heavy. This is a source of danger, especially to women with babies in perambulators. I would point out that the rates paid by these unlucky residents of this street would pay interest on a loan that would make their street at least fit'to live in; but, apparently our money goes elsewhere, as there are plenty of men to be seen at work about the town, on works not half so urgently required, as a decent footpath, a water channel, and two more street lights for Milton Road. Living in hopes of something from the new council, I wish to subscribe myself, — ' , f BACKBLOCKS. Milton Road, May 6.
