REEFTON NOTES

[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, May 8. Mrs McDougall, of Christchurch, arrived last evening on a visit to her sister, Mrs W. J. Duff. Sister Chiverton, who will act as relieving Matron at Reef ton Hospital during Matron Gibson’s absence, has arrived at Reef ton. Rev. T. W. Parsons has sufficiently recovered from his recent operation to return to his home.

Mrs W. Jensen has entered Reefton Hospital for treatment. Mr Hopgood, manager for Messrs Wallis, sawmillers, left for Greymouth on Tuesday, where he enters the hospital for treatment and an operation.

Mr Palmer, of Rotomanu, was - a visitor to Reefton yesterday. The health of Mrs Thomas Watson, senr., of Crushington, is causing her relatives anxiety.

Mr H. Barlow, a former resident here, and now of Christchurch, is visiting Reef ton. , The Reefton Ladies’ Croquet Club closed its season on Wednesday by a series of competitions. Mrs Seoble won the Hoop running after tieing with Mrs H. Wicken. Mesdames Instone and Blackmore won the Circle Competition. Mesdames Discaciati. Russell, Alborn and J. L. Wicken won their respective heats in the Hurry Scurry and in the play-off, Mrs Wicken was th© winner. Miss Shepherd was the winner of the pudding. Afternoon tea was served, and at the conclusion, Mrs T. B. Stallard, President, presented trophies won during the season as follows; —Mrs Instone, Championship Singles and Senior Handicap Singles. Mesdames; J. Feilding and J. L Wicken, Handicap Doubles. Mrs Orsbourn, Junior Handicap Singles. Mrs Prentice, Consolation Handicap. Several finals of the Reefton Tennis Club’s championship and handicap events have been played during the week, resulting: — Ladies’ Championship Singles: Miss Lee defeated Miss Magee 6/1, 6/5; Ladies’ Handicap Singles: Miss A. Patterson. defeated Miss Noble 50/45. Ladies’ Handicap Doubles: Misses Mitchell and Patterson defeated Mesdames Campbell and Duff 50/48. Men’s Handicap Singles: Pennington defeated Lawson 50/47.
