AIRMAN’S PAYMENT
WOMAN’S PRETTY ACTION. A young French airman is still smiling over an amusing little adventure he had in Paris the other day. He was waiting for a friend at the entrance of a hotel when a taxicab drew up and a young and pretty woman got out. Seeing a man in uniform she took him for the porter, and imperiousy hailed him. The airman, who is blessed with a sense of humour, stepper forward, and, to his surprise, was handed a hundred franc note. “Pay the driver ‘and keep the change,” said the girl, speaking with a foreign accent. The young man complied with the first part of the order, and then, hurrying after the girl, he offered her the change, saying gravely, but with a twinkle in his eye. “Excuse me, but I never take money from a woman.” And he showed her the wings which decorated his coat. Utterly confused the girl blushed violently, and lien, her self-possession returning, she leaned forward and with a charming gesture rewarded him for his service with a kiss.
