The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the faithful service of Mr Leach, who has retired after more than 30 years’ service. Mrs E. D. Orr was appointed Superintendent of the upper school and Miss G. Musson of the lower; In moving a vote of thanks to the Superintendents and teachers, Capt. Iles laid stress on the amazing changes in the customs governing the attendance at Sunday school. Conditions were totally different from those prevailing 20 or 30 years ago and teachers must not be disheartened if the attendances were not so good as formerly. The difficulties were not merely local, but world-wide.

Mr E. D. Orr reported a steady growth in the Bible Class movement. There were four classes with a membership of 68. A girls’ social club had also been formed.

Mr C. Neville reported that the Young Men’s Institute had been reorganised under the presidency of Mr A. H. Wilde. The Club Rooms had been renovated and already preparations were being made for the Competitions in August. Mrs T. A. Johnston reported that the Ladies’ Guild had raised £77 in a special effort in June and £244 at the Spring Show in September. Plans were made for a big show and sale in the coming Spring. The Vicar’s report showed evidences of steady development in the parish. An assistant curate would be needed very soon. The vitality of the Bible Class movement and the progress of the Mothers’ Union were very encouraging. A circular appeal for assistance for a blind clergyman formerly in the diocese was endorsed. The meeting authorised the Vestry to guarantee ;.o the Board of Sessions that the parish would bear its proportion of Napier’s quota for this year. Votes of thanks were passed to the Wardens and Vestrymen, the Teachers Choir, Ladies’ Guild, Sanctuary Guild and other organisations for their work.
