The North Sea coastal States have been notified to look out for a murderer, who daringly escaped from Germany in his own motor yacht. The fugitive is Frederick Jonas, a plumber, who has been posing as Count Hotenan, the famous American German chemist, and has extracted big sums from the public by pretending that he has invented a method for the cheap manufacture of hydrogen from water. Though arrested for fraud, Jonas was allowed ,to continue his experiments at a factory at Malchow and for this purpose, he motored from the gaol daily escorted by an elderly Sergeant. One day the car came to take'Jonas and the Sergeant back to prison, when the Sergeant was found, murdered with a crowbar.
