[OUB OWN COBBBSPONDBNT.] REEFTON, May 7. The funeral of the late Walter Boden took place yesterday, and was well attended, far H. Wajsleben rendered the at the church and graveside. A large number pf wreaths covered the coffin, far C. T. Baird sounded the Last Post, pfa a good muster of returned spldiers attended. ‘ Mrs H. S. Castle left to-day for Christchurch, where she will in future reside. The local Unemployment Committee have made repr§senta(ions tp the Unemployment Board'to hg-ve the assistance now' being given towards unemployment extended tp mep yrho put in their time prospecting' for alluvial gold. The committee point out that already a number are but fossicking, and there is always a chance of not only exposing a patch of alluvial, but also in uncovering a quartz reef, and in the latter case this would tend to the employment of a large number of men eventually.

Miss C. Brooks, who has been on a visit to Christchurch, has returned. On Monday evening, at a meeting of the Reefton Fire Brigade, the Past President’s badge of the West Coast Fire Brigades’ Association was presented to Mr C. Coxall, formerly captain of the local Brigade, by Mr J. B. Auld, to whom the Association entrusted the presentation. Mr Auld referred to Captain Coxall’s long connection wth the Fire Brigade, and the excellent service rendered by tpe Brigade under his charge, and wished him health and prosperity. Captain Coxal thanked the Fire Brigades’ Association for their thoughtfulness, and Mr Auld for his kindly references towards him.

The monthly meeting of the Reefton School of Mines took place last evening. Present: Mr I. Paterson (president), Messrs J. W. Paterson, N. Lawn, W- B. Auld (secretary), James Patterson. Mr L. W. Stevens (director) was also presept. An apology was received from far A. P. Wat'sbn The Mines Department notified that all salaries in connection with the school paid out of the Consolidated Fund will be reduced 10 per cent, from April 1. The Director’s report •was present and spojyed d|tepdances at classes as follow: —Reef ton 12, Wallsend 10, Waiuta 7, Roa 10, total 39. A further class has been established at Roa and Mr' Wearn, of Roa, has offered to take the class once per fortnight during the week between the Director’s fortnightly visits. Mr W. Parsonage has offered to address the mining tsudents on practical coalmining. The following assays have been completed: Gold'and silver 23, coal dust 8, complete coal analysis Y, alluvial concentrates 10, total 43. In addition, two samples of unknown mineral material sent for identification were named and Mr Sydney Fry, of Brunner, was recommended by the Director for a bullion assayer’s certificate. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to far W- Parsonage for his offer to address the students, also to Mr Wearn, of Paparoa, for attending to lectures at Roa.
