MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
LOAN POLL DELAYED. Ratepayers at Greymouth who visit the polling booths on May 6 will have one less decision to make than they expected. Owing to an informality in thd procedure, it will be impossible to place, tho £lO,OOO loan proposal in connection with the water supply before the ratepayers. The proposalswill have to'be readvertised, and a date for the poll cannot yet be definitely fixed. NO CONTESTS AT RUNANGA. ' Competition for municipal honours at Runanga is entirely lacking this year,' and all the candidates nominated yesterday have been elected. Mr. R. McTaggart is re-elected as Mayor for a further term of two years. The following have been elected as Borough Councillors: —Messrs. A. J. Boddy, R. Southward, M. Malone, F. J. Oakley, H. Duggan and T. Bowes. Two of the previous councillors, Messrs. Armstrong and Swallow, did not again offer their services, and they have been replaced by Messrs Duggan and Bowes. »
Mr McTaggart has been re-elected to represent the combined Boroughs of Runanga and Brunner on the Grey Hospital Board. Mr. Duggan has been re-elected to represent the Borough of Runanga on the Grey Power Board. AT KUMARA The Mayor of Kumara, Mr. A. B. Spiers, has been re-elected, there being no opposition. Only the required number of candidates were nominated for seats on the Borough Council, and the following are therefore elected:—Messrs J. Reedy, J. Keating, R. J. Burrell, W. J. Inglis, W. Stewart, W. McConnon, F. W. Wise, J. Murphy, and P. McDonald. Two candidates, Messrs W. H. Evenden and T. N. Warren, will contest the election for representative of the combined Boroughs of Kumara and Ross, on the Westland Hospital Board. AT HOKITIKA [OI/E OWN CORRESPONDENT.] > HOKITIKA .April 23. For the Mayoralty, Mr. G. A. Perry was re-elected, unopposed. The requisite nuiriber of nominations was received for the Borough Council, and the following were elected: — Messrs A. R. Elcock, A. C. Armstrong, T. W. Duff, D. J. Evans, E. W. Heenan, Gabriel Heinz, James King, E. Teichelmann, and D. P. Stuart. The latter takes the place of Cr. Turner, who was not again nominated. The following were elected to the Harbour Board:—Messrs E. W. Heenan, J. J. Mclntosh, and T. N. Warren. For the Hospital Board, Messrs J. J. Breeze, T. W. Duff, and E. W. Heenan were elected. • ■ It is estimated that the Borough is saving £75 by having no contests. CHRISTCHURCH NOMINATIONS. [PER press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. The nominations for sixteen City Council seats total 33, and for the Mayoralty two, Messrs W. Hayward (Citizens’ Association) and D. J. Sullivan (Labour). TIMARU CANDIDATES. . ’ TIMARU, April 23. Nominations for the Mayoralty are as follow:'—William Angland, Thomag William Satterthwaite, and Percy Cornelius Vinell. For the Council, there are twelve nominations for nine seats; for the Hospital Board, five candidates for three seats; for the Power Board, four nominations for three seats; High School Board, five candidates for four seats; 'for three vacancies on the. Harbour Board, there are only three nominations.
