PROPOSED RUGBY BOARD. MR AVRAY INTERVIEWED. [pee press association.] AUCKLAND, February 28. “In the meantime, the proposed International Rugby Board is in the lap of the gods,” said Mr. Cecil ‘Wr.ay, New Zealand’s, representative on the English Rugby Union, in an interview this morning. Mr Wray is at present on holiday in Auckland, lie will go Hblhe again by the Mataroa, leaving Wellington on March 10. “Before t left England, 1 was asked by the Rugby Union officials to treat the matter of the International Board as confidential until it had been discussed by the New Zealand Rugby Union,” said Mr Wray. “My own personal feelings regarding the rules oi the game is that, now that New Zealand is the premier Rugby country in the world, there is no need for us to take on an inferiority complex. It would be a generous gesture to-wards the other Rugby-playing countries if it came from New Zealand that we litid fallen in line, and we can afford to do that. It. is football brains that make for success, and I have always felt that that is where we excel.” All the older Rugby players in Nev.Zealand knew and realised what a great friend Mr Rowland Hill was to Dominion Rugby, remarked Mr Wray. It was Mr Hill’s dearest wish that there should be one code oi rules throughout the Empire. Personally. Mr Wray hoped that some day that would come about.

Muiw messages have been brougbt by Mi- Wray from members of the British team which toured the country last. year, to players and officials they met here. When Hie team arrived in Southampton, Mr Wray was there to meet them, and they all said they had had the best time of their lives. They had spoken warmly about the wonderful hospitality they had received. and mentioned the groat kindness of the Maoris.

Although there lias boon no official discussion, Mr Wray has had several talks with members of the New Ze;iland Rugby Union about. Ihe international rules. Mr Harry Frost (('haiirnan of the Management. Goin mi Iter: of the Auckland Rugby Union, and Mr T. W. Maben (Secretary) called on him this morning. Old school mates of Mr Wray’s from Taranaki; Messrs H. C. Monro, H. D. Coults, F. Turner, and R. C. Essex, together with Mr F. J. Ohlson and Mr George Dixon, manager of the 1905 All Blacks, were also present.
