NEW BRIGHTON PROSPECTS.

[special to “stab.”]

CHRISTCHURCH, February 27

The fields engaged at. New Brighton on Saturday are too big to give the back markers much chance. The ' South Canterbury trainer, R. Townley is good with trotters, and he is sure to effect an improvement in Iwanta. Of the others, Fail’ Exchange and Biddy Parrish may-be the best. The limit horses should have the best of the argument in the Belfast Handicap, and of their number Bell Lorrimer appeals most. Logaleen and Netta Oro will not lack support, but in such a big field anything may upset calculations. Tenedos is favoured for the Denton Handicap, but so far he has failed over two miles. Sahib and Dillon Logan off the limit are sure to race well, and Milo Minto cannot be left out of considerations. Sister Rose won so nicely at Wellington as to favour her chance in the Eclipse Stakes, while Belle Lorrimer and Oxford Queen will show improvement. Of the speedy lot in the Dash Handicap, Our Georgie must have a chance, as also must Brentlight and Millie De Oro. _

Of a rather poor lot of trotters in the Autumn Handicap, Great Nelson and King’s Voyage may do well. . Such a quick beginner as Warepa should do well in the Wainoni Handicap but he will be up against a good one in Great Author. Off the limit, Happy Land 1 and Author Franz read well in the Electric Handicap, and Kreisler will keep them busy.

Sportsman.’s Death: The death has occurred in Sydney of Mr. R. C. C. Hungerford, aged 64 years, a native of New Zealand. In the Dominion, Mr Hungerford was keenly interested in trotting. He went to Australia about 40 years ago, and, when the New South Wales Trotting Club was formed, he was the first secretary.
