HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, January 24. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening, present, the Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs. T. W. Duff, E. W. Heenan, D. Teichelmann, - 1 ?. C. Armstrong, G. Heinz, Jas. King. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. Evans and Elcock. Leave of absence owing to illness was extended ' to March* 3, to Cr. J. L. Turner. William Wilson, Agent (for T. P. -O’Neill), applied for consent to subdivide section 3300, Park Street., into six lots of 1 rood, each with a frontage of 83.33 links. —Granted. Alexander Askew, applied for separate water service connection for domestic supply to Section 1563, Sewell Street. —Left with overseer to attend to. P. W. Shannon and others, applied for water course at rear of Sections in North Sewell Street, to be cleared out to allow household drainage to get away.—Referred to the P.W. ComA. C*. Kernahan, Brittan Street, for drain at his frontage to be cleaned out. —Referred to P.W. Committee to carry out. S. P. Brown, intimating that he has erected along part of the boundary between his section No. 21)9 and Municipal Reserve No. 567, a new fence, and asking that Council coriiplete the balance of the fencing.—Referred to Borough Solicitor for opinion. Rev. J. H. W. Knights, Vicar of Hokitika, wrote intimating that on the occasion of the visit of the Go-vernor-General on February 1, a Service will be held at All Saints’ at which Ministers of other Churches will be invited to assist, and inviting Council to attend in their official capacity.-—-Accepted. M. S. Andrewes, applied for two months’ leave of absence.—Granted. The Secretary, State Collieries Picnic Committee wrote re booths in Cass Square.—Resolved that the Committee be informed that the Council cannot legally exclude any vendor. Municipal Association of New Zealand, wrote asking for attention of local authorities to Section 13 of the Finance Act., 1927, No. 2, and recommending that cheques lodged as deposits for tenders should be held unbanked until the tenders are dealt with. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £284/14/8; payments £696/15/8; debit balance £787/0/6 Accounts amounting to £1034/14/6 were passed for payment. The Mayor gave a note of warning that, the Council had spent up to their limit. Ratepayers were slow in paying their rates.

It was resolved to cease all extraordinary works till after March 31. All unemployed under the unemploy ment scheme would finish to-day. The Overseer reported an average of 10ft of water in the reservoir. The Abattoir Manager reported animals slaughtered during the month: 14 cows, 15 heifers, 64 bullocks, 231 sheep, 247 lambs, 6 pigs, 12 calves; condemned 1 pig.
