CZECHS SUE GERMANS
USE OF “PILSENER.” Czecho-Slovak beer brewers are on the warpath against German brewers of “Pilsener” beer. A number of lawsuits have been filled in German courts Seeking to restrain the use of the word Pilsener except for beer actually brewed in the city pf Pilsen." The Germans reply that the word Pilsener is used simply to indicate a type of beei* and is not intended to mislead the consumer, as it is always labelled after a city such as Berliner Pilsener or Radeberger Pilsener. The German Press is considerably aroused over the suits and points out that the Czechs, instead of starting new “chicanery,” might profitably recall that "while everything German is at present being viewed with hostility |n their country. Czecho-Slovak products continue to enter Germany unmolested. The Press cites the fact that German newspapers and maga zines were barred from Parliament House and the streets of Prague, Germans were denied entrance to the feeethoven anniversary celebration at Prague, and German talkies have been hissed off the screen with the tacit approval of Prague’s anti-German Lord Mayor. ' On the other hand German building companies are importing hundreds of thousands of Czech stoves, the German shoe industry is suffering severely from the competition of Czech shoes, qnd the importation of Czech beer has increased from 3,500,000 gallons in 1924 to 5,250,000 last year. The irritated German newspapers Conclude with the suggestion that the day may come when beer drinkers and visitors at Czech health resorts will realise that they annually are “exporting” millions of marks of German (japital to an unfriendly country.
