HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. [our own correspondent.] HOKITIKA, September 13. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening; present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs. T. W. Duff, Dr. Teichelmann, A. C. Armstrong, Jas. King, D. J. Evans. Apologies for abscence were made for Crs. Elcock, Heenan and Heinz. N;Z. Refrigerating Cby reported that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during the months of July, viz.: 136 sheep, 1 cattle, and forwarded a cheque for £7 10/-. The Chairman, No. 12 District Highways Council, wrote that Highways Board is unable to pay any subsidies on rates of wages paid by Local Authorities, exceeding the Award Rates (where Local Authorities are bound by an Award), or a Public Works Ruling Rate, viz: 14/- a day, (where they are not bound by an Award). This decision applies to all claims for subsidy rendered after August 1, 1930. The Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, forwarding a Draft ByLaw, relating to the proper, installation and construction of chemical closets, and requesting that .Council will adopt and affirm these By-laws, which afford reasonable provisions safeguarding likely dangers to health, such conveniences improperly installed may create.

R. J. Appleton sent application for permission to install a “Sanitas” AutoFlush Closet on Section 873, Rolleston Street. —Permission granted on conditions laid down by Medical Officer. L. Barltrop, Hokitika, applied for water service connection and drain connection to Section 395, Rolleston Street.

' Mrs Catherine Kerr, The Terrace, wrote pointing out that the gorse growing on Section 1389, adjoining hei’ property in Sale Street, constitutes a danger in case of fire, and asking Council to have the menace removed, and further, that the footpath at her frontage in Sale Street requires attention, as it is not properly formed. —Mrs Kerr be advised that the section is a private one. John Peake, Brittan Street, asked that depressions in pipe drain on the west side of Brittan Street, between Weld Street, and Gibson’s Quay, be filled in, and also that footpath at his frontage be gravelled.—Referred to P.W. Committee.

Director of Air • Services, Wellington, forwarded a report on the proposed landing grounds and seaplane base at Hokitika. The Medical Officer of Health wrote regarding chemical closets, and suggesting that the Council waive bylaws No. 103 and 104, but insist on payment of sanitary fee. —Fee to be eliminated.

The Sanitary Inspector, Greymouth, notified a case of infectious disease, and directed the necessary repalp to spouting and drain at the premises.

William Connor, Slaughterman, applied for twelve working days’ annual leave from October 28 next.—Granted. The Treasurer reported receipts £285/4/5; payments £735/3/11; Cr balance £lO4l/6/1. Accounts amounting to £194/5/8 were passed for payment. The Overseer’s report showed that the average depth of water 'in the reservoir for the month was lift. Gin. The Abattoir Manager reported: Stock slaughtered during August: 15 cows, 30 bullocks, 66 heifers, 138 sheep, 7 lambs, 10 pigs, 10 calves. Condemned: 1 cow. Fees received, £57/14/-, compared with £4B/10/6 for the same period last year. It was resolved that the drain in Stafford Street between Brittan Street and ‘«ealey Street be piped with one foot pipes. The Town Clerk presented a statement showing that 104 chain of pipe line near the Lake, cost £2260, or £’22 per chain. The estimate of the Engineer was £25 per chain.
