GREY LADIES’ FINALS

MRS. HANNAN WINS SENIOR

Yesterday afternoon, under ideal conditions, and brilliant sunshine, the final of the Greymouth Ladies Championship was played between Miss Tennent (holder) and Mrs J. W- Hannan. The game was full of interest, and was remarkably closely contested, the game being all square at the 14th' hole. The following is a short resume of the play:— Ist hole:—Miss Tennent won the toss and drove a fine length ball, but slightly off the line. Mrs Hannan followed with a nice straight ball. Both balls were well over the bunker. Miss Tennent’s second mashie approach was a verv nice pitch. The green being fast the ball ran off the green. Mrs Hannan played her niblick but. also ran through, two good approaches and the hole was halved in fours. 2nd hole:—Both tee shots were wide of the green. Miss Tennent was short with her approach and lost the hole 4 to 5. Mrs Hannan 1 up. 3rd hole: —Mrs Hannan’s tee shot was half-topped and found a very bad lie. Her second was short, but a good third found her ball on edge of green. Miss Tennent after a long drive, found the green with her second and won the hole 5 to 6. All square. . 4th hole: —Two nice drives up wind. Miss Tennent’s approach found the green, Mrs Hannan’s was short. Iftr third was off the line. Miss Tennent’s approach putt was strong, and Mrs Hannan missing her fourth, the hole was won by Miss Tennent 4 to 5. Miss Tennent 1 up. sth hole: Two good drives. Miss Tennent slightly off the line. Her second w|hs strong, but luckily was stopped by green fence and was on the green. Mrs Hannan’s second was on the green but left her too long a putt, which she played dead and the hole was halved n four. Miss Tenuent 1 up.

6th hole: Two long drives. Two indifferent seconds. Both third shots were pin high, but not on the green. Miss Tennent’s approach was strong and overran the hole. Mrs Hannan was short, the hole was halved in 6. Miss Tennent 1 up.

7th hole: Again two good drives and seconds. Mrs Hannan’s third hit the bunker, but ran out. Miss Tennent’s third and fourth were fluffed. Her fifth was short, Mrs Hannan winning the hole in 7. All square.

Bth hole: Mrs Hannan’s drive cleared the hedge. Miss Tennent’s hit the trees and fell through. From a very awkward position she managed to get clear of the bunker and played a beautful approach dead. Mrs Han nan played a very nice approach, and the hole was halved in fours. All square.

9th hole: Two beautiful tee shots. Mrs Hannan a good second and her third was just short of the green Miss Tennent duffed her second and her third was also short of the green. Indifferent play on the green lost Mrs Hannan the hole. Miss Tennent-1 up. 10th hole: Miss Tennent half topped her drive and played poo" second and third shots. Mrs xiannan a nice drive and second and third was just short of the green. Her fourth was strong and taking three putts, won the hole 7 to 8. All square. 11th hole: Two good tee shots. Miss Tennent’s ball again striking the fence, stayed on the green. Mrs Hannan’s just off green. Her approach was too strong and missing her putt, lost 3 to 4. Miss Tennent 1 up. 12th hole: This was a well played hole. Both drives, seconds, and approaches were good and taking two putts each, the hole was halved in 5. Miss Tennent one up. 13th hole: Two good drives. Miss Tennent played her second with a wooden club and duffed the shot. Her third was too strong. Mrs Hannan was on the green in three, and with a nice putt won the hole 4 to G. All square. 14th hole: Both players holed in three. A well played hole. All square. 15th hole: Ths hole was a series of disasters to both players, Mrs Hannan eventually winning 7 to 8. Mrs Hannan 1 up. 16th hole: Two long drives and two good seconds. Miss Tennent missed her putt to hole in four. Miss Hannan winning the hole in 4 to 5. Mrs Hannan 2 up. hole: Mrs Hannan’s drivo found the bunker in front of tee, but she got well out with her second and played a nice third. Both players were on in four. Miss Tennent realising a win was necessary to save the game, went for the hole, and missed, and missed her return, losing tho hole and niatch 6 to 7, leaving Mrs Hannan 3 up and 1 to play. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The final of the Ladies’ Junior Championship, was played on Tuesday, and resulted in a win for Miss Irvine, who defeated Miss C. Tennent 3 up and 2, after an even contest. MIXED FOURSOME. The following is the draw for the Mixed Foursome Medal Match to be played on Saturday. The ball may be placed for all shots and all players hit off from men’s tees. In the first round of the inter-State golf matches, which was played on the second day of the National Golf Meeting on the Metropolitan links, New South Wales defeated South Australia by five matches to two. Ryan, the Victorian amateur champion, defeated two different opponents in Len Nettlefold, of Tasmania, by a single hole, and he also beat H. Morrison, of New South Wales, at the 23rd hole.
