[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] There was a sitting of the S.M. Court .on . Wednesday, when the following business was dealt with: C. Hunt, for allowing one calf to wander, was fined 5/-, costs 10/-. C. Johnson, for allowing one horse to wander, was fined 5/-#. costs 10/-. S. Case v. C. Hunt, a claim of £7 4/1 for goods supplied. Some of the items were disputed by defendant, who said the amount he was indebted was £5 16/6. This sum he had offered to pay the plaintiff, which, however, he refused to accept. The plaintiff denied that Hunt had ever offered him any money, and stated that the amount sued for was correct. The Magistrate said there was a conflict of evidence and defendant having filed no notice of defence, he would give judgment for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with costs 15/-. The Rev. Mr Charteris, is at present on a visit to Gore. Mr A. G; Wood, who has been to Christchurch, returned to town on Tuesday. / & Mrs Ward, of Waimate, returned to her home on /Tuesday. Mrs Haines left for Christchurch on Thursday. Word has been received of the sudden death in Christchurch of Mrs Peters, senr. Deceased was a former resident of Kumara. The other day some excitement was caused in Seddon Street, owing to the extraordinary behaviour of the occupant of a cart, to which was attached a horse that had seen better days—having once been a well-known performer on the trotting track. The driver, who had evidently come to town for a holiday, was in a happy mood, and, anxious to provide some amusement for the onlookers, decided on taking a preliminary along the Beach road, and the old horse striking a 2.40 gait, soon, had the wheels of the cart wobbling, and, being steered erratically, the jotirney soon ended, as the whole caboose landed in a water hole. Luckily assistance was at hand, and after some trouble salvage was effected, the only damage being to the already well worn harness. J
