[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, August 23. The publication of the balancesheets of the butter factories operating in Westland show that the last season was fairly successful, particularly from the output point of view. The increase of the output of the Kokatahi Factory was over 23 tons on the previous year’s total. The IntelWanganui Factory turned out ovei eight tons more than the previous year. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor, Mr G. A. Perry (chairman), Messrs Jas. King, A. C. Armstrong, E. Heenan, E. Teichelmann. Apologies were received from Messrs D. J. Evans, A. R. Elcock, T. Duff, and G. Heinz. The Hon. Secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Hokitika, wrote acknowledging tho Council’s letter respecting the consumption of liquor at the Soldiers’ Hall, and intimating that the Committee have embodied the following resolution in its rules: — and it will do its utmost to give effect to the rule: —“Rule 34. No alcoholic liquor shall be brought upon or consumed or served on any of the premises of tlie Association, without the leave of the Committee being first had and obtained.” Mrs H. M. Hall, South Revell Street, applied for permission to arect a suspension verandah over her furniture mart.- —-Granted. The Mayor moved that an inspection bo made of the Princess Theatre. —Carried. . r fihe Mayor moved that no entertainment in a Borough-owned place be allowed until all conditions of the Commissioner of Stamp Duties be complied with. —Carried. A petition was received from a numher of residents of North Revell Street, asking that attention be given to the bad state of the drains, footpaths and curbing in front of their residences.— Referred to the Public Works Committee to act. The financial statement showed receipts £2286/10/8, payments £lB2 5/-, District Fund Account credit balance £1237/10/1. The rates collected amounted to 61 per cent of the amount struck.
