MURDER AND SUICIDE. [PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, August 11. Evidently Henry John Millen, who shot his wife and then himself at Howick, on Saturday morning, had decided to end both lives. In a letter that he left to his only son, he stated that he was tired of all worry and trouble. “Your uncle will look after you,” the note concluded. The funeral of the two victims of the tragedy took place yesterday after’ noon at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Flat Bush, Papatoetoe. A long cortege followed the two hearses, and many friends and relatives waited the arrival of, the funeral at the cemetery, which is situated in a beautiful part’ of the district. Many beautiful floral tributes covered the caskets of the victims.

FOUND SHOT.

HAMILTON, August 11.

'An open verdict was returned at the inquest this afternoon into circumstances surrounding the death of Daniel McKeown, a farmer of Ngaruawahia, who was found dead with a shot gun beside him on his farm this morning. Elizabeth McVeigh, employed at McKeown’s house, said that deceased left home at 6.30 o’clock this morning, and said that he was going to attend a sick cow.

The Coroner said there was no evidence to show that deceased had intentionally taken his life.

TWO MEN DROWNED?

PALMERSTON NORTH, Aug. 11. Colin Campbell and Victor Diueman, residents of Bulls, were reported missing to-night. It is highly probable that they were drowned in the Rangitikei River, as they left Bulls in an old boat early in the morning, when the river was heavily in flood. They were seen at the Rajigitikei Heads at 11 a.m. with oars out. The boat was found at 6 p.m. on the north side of the Heads.

DEATH AT HOTEL.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 11

The adjourned inquest into tjbe death of Thomas Redford Harrison (commonly known in New Zealand as Thomas Gordon Lennox) who was found dead in bed at the Railway Hotel on .July 28, concluded to-day. After hearing the evidence of Dr Thomson, who had made a post mortem examination, [he Coroner, Mr E. D. Mosley, found that death was duo to heart failure following pneumonia. George Thorngate Weston, solicitor, gave evidence that, under the instructions of a Wellington firm of solicitors he had been looking after the deceased’s affairs. He had no doubt that deceased, who had been known as Thomas Gordon Lennox, was in fact named Thomas Redford Harrison.

ALCOHOL’S VICTIM.

OAMARU, August 10.

At an inquest on William McGregor, 57, who was found dead in bed on Saturday morning, a verdict was returned in terms of the medical evidence, that McGregor died from fatty degeneration of the heart, following upon acute alcoholism. MOTOR!STS INJURED CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. Three men were injured, two seriously, when a. motor-car driven by V. Clemens of Spreydon, collided with a shingle lorry near Paparua prison this morning. J. H. Weir of St. Albans and E. Reynolds of Wellington, passengers were both admitted to hospital with serious head injuries. Clemens has minor injuries.
