A message from Durban says that the British steamer Brookwood, from the Tyne to New Caledonia, coalladen, wirelessed that she was endeavouring to smother a fire which had broken out in the after hold. The vessel is proceeding to Mauritius, where she expects to arrive on Thursday.

MARCONI’S YACHT. ROME, August 11. Fire occurred on Marconi’s yacht, Elettra, in Civita Veechia harbour. The outbreak -was due to a short circuit while Marconi -was sending a wireless message to , London. He superintended the fire operations, and saved the yacht, and Jjpuch valuable apparatus, though the wireless equipment was destroyed. There was great excitement ashore when the vessel was seen to be enveloped in smoke.
