JUPP’S GOOD BOWLING

[BT CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPTBIGHT.]

(Recd. Aug. 12, 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 11. The Australians made the smallest total of o the tour agaihst the weak Northants eleven. Play resumed fortyfive minutes late, owing to rain, and the wicket was affected. Jackson’s chance of inclusion in the last Test was dimmed by his cheap dismissal, returning the bowler an easy catch. The first wicket fell at fourteen. Bradman started delightfully, but afterwards was uncomfortable when facing Jupp. Seventy minutes’ play before lunch produced -48. With the addition of only 11 runs, Jupp sent back Woodfull, Bradman and Fairfax. The last-named batted for half-an-hour for one. Kippax and Richardson were also unhappy, and at 65 Kippax had. his wicket shattered. Richardson luckily lasted for forty minutes. The tailenders offered no resistance, and as Australia were 156 behind, they were forced to follow' on, for the first time, during Ais .\foiirA Niifo tticketsj [fell. after lunch for 45 runs. ’ ‘ , Woodfull and Jackson re-opened at 4.35, when the wicket was easier. Richardson ran for Jackson, whose injured ankle gave "way. 1 His batting was unaffected, however, for he hit, cleanly all round the wicket. Jupp again worried the batsmen, but received little assistance from the pitch. The. pair scored freely. Jackson gracefully oc- ( cupied a hundred minutes. Soon after he was again caught and bowled. Woodfull and Hurwood played, out time. Scores: —

LONDON, August 11. . In picking the English team for the fifth Test match against Australia,? the selectors are likely to pass over both Nichols and Goddard, though the latter still has many supporters. Hendren is likely to reappear in the English team for this Test. His inclusion will allow Chapman to go in as number seven. England would then have four outfields, Leyland, Sutcliffe, Duleepsinhji and Hendren. It is possible that both Jupp and Langridge will be included. The latter is easily England’s best, left arm all-rounder.

The English thirteen would thus be: —Chapman, Duleepsinhji, Jupp, Peebles, Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Duckworth, Hammond, Hendren, Leyland, Tate, Larwood and Langridge.
