JDc.ily Mail” by a London employer: —
1. Three unemployed Sheffield men occupied 2-1/- seats at a recent Aioei'i Hall, AV., boxing tournament Special transport arrangements winch had been, made in Sheffield for the event were altered co that these and other men might sign on the same morning at the Labour Exchange.
2. A respected workman in Wandsworth, S.W., explained his position to a. former employer as follows: “I could have a job on the other side ol London at J23/5/- a week, but it would cost me 10/- a week in lares as well as a few shillings for incidentals. I am drawing £2/6/- a week from the dole and the job would be of no advantage to me. I’ve paid for- unemployment. benefit for years, and I m going to do as others do and take what there is to come.”
3. A stuidy-looking man approached an official in the yard of an important firm of transport- contractors and asked for a. job for a. week or two. “All I want at the end of the day is 1/- for my night’s keep,” he said. Asked to explain his request, he said: “I’ve had six months with the unemployed and am now out of benefit. If I could get a job for a week or two and a- note saying I was discharged through sickness I could come in benefit again.”
