“HUNGER MARCHERS”

ARRESTS STOP PROCESSION.

[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

SYDNEY, July 25

The hunger march to Sydpey from Cessnock and Lithgow, organised by Communists, ended disastrously on the outskirts of the city to-day. A meagre contingent of fifteen, after tramping in from Cessnock and Lithgow, found a posse of police awaiting them with a police van in Parramatta Road. A Sergeant halted th,o' marchers and informed them that they were taking part in an unlawful procession. He advised them to disperse. The men then dispersed, but soon afterwards they reformed, and they *wei’e then augmented by a few loafers from the sidewalks.’ In the twinkling of an eye, the police swooped down on the misguided ones, arrested fifteen, and bundled them into the police van. which was shot away to -Newton almost before the onlookers realised what was happening. The Communist Party view trek, as most others do, as a- complete fiasco.
