MEETINGS

WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE. The monthly meeting of the Westland branch of the Canterbury io gress League was held last evening. Present: Dr Teichelmann (chairman), Messrs D. J. Evans, J. J. McGrath, W. Wilson, W. Jeffries, W. E. Richards, F. G. H. Coles (lion, secretary). An apology was received, for the absence of Mr Dew. The Canterbury branch torwaided a letter to the Westland branch from Mr Bathgate, making suggestions for improvements to tracks, etc., at Waiho. —To be informed that the various matters mentioned in the. letter are being attended to. The General Manager of Railways wrote re the concession of freight from Dunedin to Greymouth, pointing out that Hokitika importers receive the same concession as those in Greymouth as far as Greymouth, plus the ordinary charge from there to Hokitika. —Discussion held over. Mr W. F. Harley wrote asking for support in urging the construction of the traffic bridge over the Waimakariri.—Reply to be made that this League has been advocating this bridge for some time. The Secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet. The receipts were <£l24/8/4 and expenditure the same amount.

Dr Teichelmann was re-elected president, Mr J. J. Mclntosh vicepresident, Mr Coles secretary and treasurer, and the following committee were re-elected: Messrs W. J. Butler, W. Jeffries, W. Wilson, T. W. Duff, T. W. Bruce, W. Searle, J. Dew, D. J. Evans, W. E. Richards. Mr Goss was re-elected the branch representative in Christchurch, and it was resolved to write him thanking him for his efforts. The usual honorarium (£5 ss) was granted the Secretary.
