AUSTRALIAN GOLD
PRODUCTION BONUS WANTED.
[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN.-—-COPYRIGHT.] CANBERRA, June 2G. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. £cullin, received to-day a deputation representing the goldfields communities of the Commonwealth, who asked the Government to provide a bonus of 20/for every ounce of gold produced in the Commonwealth within the next ton years. The deputation argued that such a bonus would stimulate the gold industry, and would also help to solvo the unemployment problem. Mr. Scullin replied that he was not impressed with the arguments advanced. Such a bonus might mean the expenditure of a huge Sum, even with no assurance of a wonderful revival of the mining industry such as had been pictured to him. However, he would promise to submit their representations to the Cabinet.
