REEFTON, June 17,

During the progress of the football match between Ikamatua and Reefton, a player named Sid Richards received a blow in the face fracturing the bone of his nose. He continued playing though in great pain, but an injury to an arm compelled his retirement. He received medical attention in the evening. Misses Vera and Rachel Heath left for Westport yesterday. Miss 0. McMahon and Miss J. Twomey, of Cronadun, left on Monday for a holiday trip to the North Island. A public meeting‘was held at the County Chambers to protest against the action of the Mines Department in shifting the mines office to Greymouth. Mr. W. Clayton presided and 36 members of the business and mining community were present. The following resolution was proposed by Mr. I. Patterson and seconded by Mr. J. B. Auld: That this meeting of citizens representing the mining industry in this district strongly protests against the proposed transfer of the Mines Office from Reefton to Greymouth upon the grounds that it is contrary to the interests of the coal and gold mining industries and will prove more expensive and less efficient for administration. —Carried without dissent. Mr. J. B. Auld moved: That a copy of the letter and resolution be sent to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Mines, Hon. Mark Fagan, Messrs G. C. Black, H. E. Holland M’s P., and Hon W. Mclntyre.—Carried. . The Chairman advocated the formation of a committee to .follow this matter up. He moved that a committee consisting of Messrs J. B. Auld, E. W. Spencer, T. H. Lee, I. Patterson, T. O’Brien and W. Wood, be formed for the purpose. —Carried. Mr. Jas. Patterson moved and Mr. T. O’Brien seconded: That this meeting of Citizens of Reefton send a congratulatory wire to Hon. M. Fagan, on his elevation to the Upper House. —Carried.
