A social evening was spent at Mr W. O’Malley’s residence on Friday last, when the friends and schoolmates of Mr and Mrs T. Shannahan met to bid them farewell before leaving for America, where thejj will reside. Games were indulged in, with songs at intervals. In proposing the toast of the guests, Mr A. Doig wished them bon voyage and the best of health and happiness in their future home. Mr G. B. Mclriroe also added his good wishes to the guests. Mr T. Shannahan suitably replied, adding that if at any time their friends went to America, his wife and himself would be very pleased to see them. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant evening to a close. At the Methven sheep dog trials last week, Mr J. Brown’s “Nell” gained third place in the yarding class out of 31 entries, his dog being only two points behind the winner. A meeting of the Ikamatua. and West Coast Coursing Club was held on Saturday evening, Mr G. B. McJnroe presiding over a large attendance.

A letter was received from Mr J. Noble, thanking tlie Club for offering him the position as judge. Mr Noble stated he was sorry that he could not accept the honour, as he will be absent from the district on that dajte. It was resolved to leave the appointment of a judge to Mr B. Winchester. A. permit a run a maiden stake on Juno 28 was received from the New Zealand Coursing Association. Mr T. Coll’ donated a cup to be allocated as the Club decides. It was resolved to thank Mi’ Coll for the donation, the allocation to be held over till next meeting. The New Zealand Coursing Association’s attention is to be drawn to the fact that a dog named “First Sight” ran at the Patea meeting, this name being the registered name of Mr B. Winchester’s dog. The secretary reported that the membership now stands at 60.
