DAVIS CUP TIE

MILAN, June 14.
In the Davis Cup tennis tie, Stefani (Italy) beat Hopman (Australia) 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2; De Morpurgo (Italy) defeated Crawford (Australia) 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Both the matches were played under tho most trying conditions, owing, to the crowd barracking and anticipating linesmen’s decisions, calling out before the ball had touched the ground, which was most disconcerting to Hopman. Stafani played an excellent game, and his passing shots were exceptionally strong. ' Crawford was not at the top of his form.
AUSSIES WIN DOUBLES.
LONDON, June 15.
At Milan, in the Davis Cup doubles, Hopman and Willard beat Morpurgo and Gaslini 9/7, 9/7, 4/6, 6/4.
CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND JAPAN.
PRAGUE, June 14. Menzil (Czecho-Slovakia) defeated Harado (Japan) 7/5, 6/1.

England’s team of ladies won the Wightman Tennis Cup by four matches to three. Results:— Miss Jacobs (U.S.A.) beat Miss Fry (England) 6/0, 6/3; Mrs Wills Moody (U.S.A.), beat Mrs Watson (England) 7/5, 6/1; Miss Mudford (England), beat Miss Palfrey (U.S.A.) 6/0, 6/2; Mrs Mills Moody beat Miss Joan Fry 6/1, 6/1; Mrs Matson (England) beat Miss Helen Jacobs (U.S.A.) 2/6, 6/2, 6/4; Mesdames Godfree and Watson (England) beat Mrs Wills Moodv and Miss Helen Jacobs (U.S.A.) 7/5, 1/6, C/4; Misses Frey and Harvey (England) beat Misses Palfrey and Cross (U.S.A.) 2/6, 6/2, 6/4.
