FIRE OUTBREAKS

INCENDIARISM AT SCHOOL.

WANGANUI, June 16.

Incendiarism Is suspected in connection with a, fire at Wanganui East School, last, night. Tho front room of the wooden building was badly damaged. The fire seems to have started at two places. The brigade found a trail of paper laid on the floor for a distance of four feet. Marks on the outer wall point to someone having gained access through a window.

Tho first fire for some time to threaten tho business centre occurred at. nine o’clock last evening, partly destroying tho premises on Rosemont Road, occupied by F. Timanas and Co. ironmongers, 11. Carbutt, grocer, R. Toomey, bootmaker. Splendid work by tlie brigade prevented the conflagration spreading to tiio adjoining shop. The buildings owned by H. Berridge’s estate were insured for £5OO, Timanas and Co’s stock £lOOO, Carbutt £2OO, Toomey £250.

Neil Bell’s residence at Maraekakaho was totally destroyed by fire.
