CHRISTCHURCH, May 6

There has been very little change in the grain and produce market since the previous report. Most of the wheat has now been sold and there is not very much offering. Values are unchanged. To-day’s quotations are Tuscan 5/8 to 5/9 a bushel, Hunters 5/9 to 5/10, Pearl 5/11 to 6/1, on trucks in each case. The market for fowl wheal remains firm at 5/11 f.0.b.5.i., equivalent to 5/6 on trucks. The oat market is also unchanged. The on trucks price in Canterbury is 3/6. There has been a better enquiry for chaff recently, and the on trucks price is now £5 to £5/2/6. The price to farmers on trucks for potatoes is unaltered being £3/5/- a ton. There is a better enquiry for potatoes in all forward positions, quotations being: June £4/15/- a ton, July £5/5/-. July-September £5/10/-. Cape, barley is quoted at 3/6 on trucks. Best malting at 4/2 to 4/3, and medium quality at about -I/-. The latest linseed quotation is £l5 a ton one trucks.

There is a better enquiry for partridge peas and has been a s'i-’ht firming in values consequent upou°a scarcity of No. ones. They have been sold as high as 5/3 f.o.b.s.i. equal to 4/9 on trucks, and fags are quoted at. 4/0 to 4/3 on trucks. There has been an alteration in prices for bran and pollard which now come into line with those in Austialia, namely £8 a ton for bran and £B/10/ a ton for pollard. STOCKS AND SHARES. Though tho New Zealand loan has been over-subscribed within a few hours, the total subscriptions are at present unknown. The letters of allocation are being despatched to-mor-row. Tho “Morning Post’s” financial editor says:—The success of the New Zealand loan confirms the impression that there is ample money available for investment, the demand at present being limited to securities of the “safety first” order, among which New Zealand’s reputation deserves a high place. LATER. Letters of allotment will not be issued till May 7. The applications were more numerous and the total subscription larger than anticipated, when the list closed. LONDON WOOL SALES. LONDON, May 6. There are available for the wool sales opening on May 13, 159,000 bales, including 27,500 Australian and 38,500 New Zealand.
