The New South Wales Legislative Assembly has resumed. The Piemiei, Mr T. Bavin is ill. The Treasurer, Mr Stevens, informed the House that it was intended to establish a council which would control the unemployment relief fund, to which all of the taxpayers would contribute. This council would also take steps to find work for the unemployed and would in every way interest itself in their welfare. Mr Stevens stated that the Government had definitely decided to repeal the forty-four hours’ week legislation. He also foreshadowed sweeping legislation to restore industrial financial stability. The public service salary cut would be extended to include officers and other employees of public authorities and corporate bodies, thus the reduction will apply almost certainly to the police force and definitely to the employees of the Harbour Trust, Gove'rnment Savings Bank, Main Roads Board, and Water and Sewerage Board. Judges are exemptj ed. Many other sub-Governmental bodies are likely to be affected.
