HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

HOKITIKA, May 6. The monthly meeting of the , Hokitika School Committee was, held last evening. Present: Mr. A. C. Armstrong (chairman) Mrs. Wilson, Messrs W. H. Shannon, R. J. Redder, J. J. Breeze, H. W. R. Sweney, F. Chesterman, W. E. Richards, Conning( hon. secretary). The chairman said the meeting wad primarily called to enable the committee to meet the Rector (Mr. Menzies),. Good reports had preceded Mr. Menzies of his work and good reports had also followed him, and ho would find the committee at all times ready to assist him, as they. had to other Rectors. He trusted the best Of Relations between Rector and committee) would be maintained. Messrs Shannon, Richards and Sweney supplemented the chairman’s remarks. Mr. Menzies, in thanking the chairman and members for their welcome, said ho knew he had a hard task ahead of him in followng Mr. Partridge, but if lie failed it would not be for the want of application. He had heard of and seen much of the good work done by the committe and their support of the Rector, and he hoped he would merit that support and maintain the good name of the school.

Re the school band it was reported that tho instruments had arrived and tho boys had their first meeting. It was resolved that a hearty; letter of appreciation be sent to Mr. Chas. Gibbons who undertook tliei work of selecting the instruments. It was resolved that the committee pay, half the cost of the flutes and the boys the other half, and on any lad retiring from the band and did not wish the possession of the instrument his .share be refurided if the flute is handed back in good order, but if the; lad would like to keep the instrument, ho must pay the balance to the committee. .. ■
