WIRELESS FOR BLIND
GLOUCESTER GIRL’S KINDNESS.
[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]
(Received May 6, 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 5.
A charming story, which has captured the imagination of the newspapers, was recorded to-day. A Gloucester girl, betrothed to a wealthy young business man, had the choice of rich furs and sparkling jewels as a present. She declined them all, and said she would be happy if every blind man, woman and child in Gloucestershire could be provided with wireless sets.
The news was revealed when a young man walked into the National Institute for the Blind and asked the cost of providing and maintaining these sets forever. The staggered officials worked out the cost and told ]iim it would be in the neighbourhood of £lO,OOO. “Very well, they can have it,” said the man, who declined to give his name. “It isn’t my gift, but a present from my future wife.” He handed over a cheque.
