DON’T APE AMERICANS
- , MR. COLLIER’S ADVICE. PERTH, March 15. While the Premier (Mr. Collier) was speaking at a political meeting at Subiaco last night on importations from the United States someone in the audience referred to ’’importation of the language.” “There are moments in my life when I sigh to be a Mussolini,” responded Mr. Collier. “Should I ever be entrusted with such powers I would stop tho talkies and their Yankee accent. (Great applause). As an Australian I feel ashamed when I go to Sydney to see how America is Americanising young Australia—not only in accent, but also in style and dress. I see boys and girls every day' who I am certain have copied their style and manner from what they ha,ve seen in the pictures. Let us not try to ape Americans.”
