TRACK AND STABLE NOTES. Kumara-owned Nasstori, a wellknown performer on West Coast courses, had to be destroyed at Riccarton this week owing to having developed blood poisoning. Quarterdeck, although not nominated for the Westport meeting, will race at Hokitika, Greymouth, and Reefton, after competing at Riccarton on Easter Monday. Partial Eclipse, while galloping on the track at Avondale a few days ago, broke a leg and was destroyed. She was a five-year-old mare and had several wins in hack races to her credit, mostly over short distances owing to an injury to a hind leg and to her being none too sound. Mr P. Holden, of Hastings, has purchased a two-year-old half-sister to Grecian by Cape Horn. . This youngster has not yet been tried, but bred as she is, should hold her own with the best.

Dundas Boy was sold recently and he is now one of C. S. Donald’s string, but is being given a spell. Another recent sale was that of Great Epsom, now in charge of Nelson Price. Praise has been on the easy list for a few weeks, but she will be in work again shortly in preparation for the Champagne Stakes at Easter. She has not won at six furlongs yet, but on two occasions when tried at that distance she was unlucky. She was suffering from a cold in Auckland, while she was left at the start of the Dunedin Champagne Stakes. Ranelagh is enjoying an easy time at present but it is A. E. Wormaid’s intention to put him into work again soon.

Although Sir Archie has not had a race for several months little fault can be found in his condition, foi the big chestnut gelding is looking very muscular at present. He iegistered a smart gallop ovei’ six fuilongs at Ellerslie yesterday morning, running the distance in 1.17 2-5, and finished up his task in attractive style. Sir Archie is engaged at the Whangarei meeting next week, and if track conditions are favourable the trip should be a profitable one. Concentrate, Cimabue, Gesture, Goshawk, Merry Mint, Habit and Royal Duke will leave for Australia next week. The Auckland two-year-olds Bells of Shandon and Oil King are also booked for Sydney. In the Maungatapere Handicap, six furlongs, to be decided at the Whangarei meeting, the handicapper appears to have been somewhat hard on Tetrachate. At the Franklin meeting Currajong beat Tetrachate, giving him 21b over a similar course, and now there is only lib between the pair, Currajong having 8.6 and Tetrachate 8.5. For a win Currajong 'should certainly be conceding Tetrachate more. A great improvement has been effected recently in the appearance of the Omoto Racecourse, where the mower has been used to cut down the rank and unedible grasses on the extensive area enclosed by the racing track. The result is a fine, even sward and if the Greymouth Jockey Club’s flock of 200 well-conditioned sheep keep it in check in the meantime, the racecourse should present a very attractive appearance for the Easter races.
