STRIKE ADVOCATES DEFEATED. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, March 29. The special Labour Council meeting defeated by sixty-three votes to thirty-eight the militants’ proposal tor a railway strike as a protest against forty-eight hours' week but a conference of all unions is being held next week to discuss the' position. Weak organisation of the railway unions, shortage of funds and the already existing widespread unemployment were factors in defeating the militants’ plans.
