IMPORTANT AMENDMENTS Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., has received the following letter from,the Minister 'of Mines (12/3/30):—“! forward herewith for your information an extract from N.Z. Gazette, No. 13, dated the 20th ultimo, containing amended regulations under the Mining Act, 1926, relating to assistance to prospecting. As you will observe, Regulations 115 (5) (c) and (5) (e) have been revoked, and the regulations as contained in the enclosed extract substituted therefor. The rates in the Regulations which have been revoked have been increased approximately 20 per cent, all round.” The changes made by the amending regulations provide the following rates: For sinking in solid rock where blasting is necessary, the shaft being not loss than 4ft. by 3ft. 11/6 per foot. Where it is shown to the satisfaction of the Inspector of Mines that the cost exceeds £2/6/- per foot, then 15/6 per foot may be paid. For tunnelling or driving through hard rock where blasting is necessaiy, the tunnel or drive being not less than sft by 3ft.: For the whole distance S/- per foot. Where it is shown to the satisfaction 'of the Inspector of Mines that the cost exceeds £l/11/- per foot, then 10/6 per foot may be paid.
