Lewis wrote asking that the Borough reserve adjoining his property be cleared of blackberry.—Referred to the P. W. Committee. D. P. Stuart wrote complaining of the excessive growth of gorse in Jollie

Street. F. McGregor wrote complaining of the state of the South African War Memorial (Town Clock). —To be attended to. T’he Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote asking permission to hold a concert on the night of Anzac Day.— Granted. J. >S. Langford wrote asking permission to carry a high-powered line along the back of the Racecoursevto the Mental Hospital.—No objection offered. The Treasurer reported receipts £505 16/2, expenditure £BO3/6/3, dr. balance £7OO/10. Accounts amounting to £904 11/1 were passed for payment.. 'The Borough Foreman reported on work carried out during the month. Adverse comment on the Weld Street railway crossing was made by councillors. Dr Teichelmann referred to faulty drainage of Jollie Street drain.—This was referred to the P.W. Committee. The Abattoirs Manager reported stock killed during January 23 cows, 29 heifers, 56 bullocks, 237 sheep, 127 lambs, 9 pigs, 9 calves. Condemned: 1 cow, 2 pigs. Fees received £73/14/; for similar period last year £73. It was resolved that W. E. Gaylor be appointed traffic inspector for the Borough of Hokitika. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Duff and seconded by Cr. King, that it be a recommendation to the P.W.- Committee to have a four-inch pipe line ! laid in Park and Sewell streets. , Cr Evans, by leave, withdrew the motions in his name regarding the purchase of a motor lorry and making the Town Clerk town manager.
