HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. (Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, December 14. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: Crs D. J. Evans (Chairman), T. W. Duff, E. W. Heenan, A. C. Armstrong, J. King, E. Heinz, A. R. Elcock. Apologies were received for the absence of the Mayor (Mr Perry), Crs Turner and Teichelmann. The New Zealand Refrigerating Coy., advised the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during the month of October, viz., 53 sheep, and 8 lambs. A. Cederman applied for water service connection, to Section 971, Jollle Street.—Granted. A. Harvey applied for water service connection to Section 904, Weld Street-Granted. ’ Hon. Secretary, Kanieri Tennis Club applied for twelve barrels of tar. — Regret cannot supply. Mr Wm. Wilson (as Agent) applied for consent to subdivide Sections 3342 and 3343, Sewell Street, by transferring section 3343 to J. M. Schroder.— Consent given. Jas. Fleming, lessee under Lease No. 2040, Lot A, Subdivision 4, Hokitika Municipal Endowment Reserve No. 163, Koiterangi, applied for consent to transfer Lessee’s interest to his son, Charles William Fleming.— Consent given. Hon. Secretary, Cobden Picnic Committee, applied for the use of Cass Square, on February 15 next, for the purpose of their annual picnic.—Request granted on usual conditions. J. M. Schroder, Hokitika, wrote asking that footpath in Sewell Street, between his frontage and Hampden Street, receive attention. —Referred to P.W. Committee with power to act. H. Parry, on behalf of the Texco Coy., applied to have kerbside pump at Kirwan’s Corner—Granted on the usual conditions.

The foreman reported on the work done during the month. The following stock was slaughtered at the Abattoirs during November: 7 cows, 16 heifers, 75 bullocks, 183 sheep, 23 lambs, 20 pigs, 6 calves. Fees, £5B 17s 6d; for same period last year £65 17s 6d. A resolution was carried asking authority to chang e the purpose of Howatt Square, which has been applied for to erect the wood pulp works. It was resolved that motors be forbidden on Revell Street during the evenings of ’Xmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The Deputy-Mayor extended the season’s greetings to Councillors and Borough employees, which were reciprocated by Mr. Coles, Town Clerk.
