UNSIGHTLY ADVERTISEMENTS
PLACED NEAR SPHINX. LONDON, November 21. A report from Cairo says: No doubt as an inference that it is a fitting association in longevity, a firm of pill-makers erected a conspicuous advertisement immediately in front of the Sphinx. Nearby is a poster extolling face cream. These are instances of the .first invasion of advertisers into Egypt’s show spots, where the aesthe-
tic sense is possibly less outraged by the appearance of a crop of whisky advertisements. The Government, in a spirit of complete impartiality, ordered the fire brigade to destroy the lot, but it is a more difficult problem now to erase stencilled announcements on the walls of mosques and monuments.
