AUSTRALIANS DISAPPOINTING (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 4. Noel Ryan and Griffiths, the Australian swimmers, opened their N.Z. tour at a carnival in the Tepid Baths here to-night. Each made one appearance. Ryan was easily defeated by Bridson, the New Zealand champion, and record holder, by 15 yards, over 440 yards, in smin. 21 sec., they being the only starters. The time was 4 2-5 seconds outside of Bridson’s record. Ryan, whose best time is snun 17sec., swam below his form. Griffiths won a 100 yards scratch race by five feet in 58 3-ssec, fyoni Farrell, the Auckland champion. Hie New Zealand record is 55 4-5, so Griffiths’ effort was only moderate. Another carnival will be held tomorrow night. Ryan is in the 880. yards race, , and Griffiths is in the 50 yards race. .
