PIPE BANDS' CONTEST.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would crave a little space to ventilate a matter , that has received much limelight of late—the financial position of our local band. Recently a Pipe Band Contest and Scottish Concert were held at Greymouth in aid of the band funds and, to the best of my knowledge, nothing has been published to date to enlighten the public as to the success or otherwise of the undertaking. As many people, who are not ordinarily lovers of pipe music, went along to either the Contest or the Concert just to give our band a hand financially, it would appear to be only a reasonable thing for the secretary of the band to publish for the information of the general public the amount by which the band’s debts will be liquidated as a result of the venture. There is nothing like bringing these matters into the open and thus ensure the confidence of the public who support the band. I feel sure Mr Murray will meet this request as it is a matter of considerable comment. —Yours etc., ALLEGRO. (The matter was referred to Mr W. D. Murray, who stated that it had already been decided to give full publicity to the financial result of the contest and concert. Several accounts, including some from Christchurch, had not yet come to hand, but he expected that the balance-sheet would be complete about the end of this week, and it would then be made available for publication.—Ed. “Star.”)
