The f.o.b.s.i. figure of sales made to the North is £5 to £5 5/-. The rains of the last ten days have been of inestimable benefit to the young crop. CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE. Dalgety and Co., Ltd:, Christchurch, report on the wool sale held on Saturday, November 30: — The first Christchurch sale of the season was held to-day when catalogues totalling 15,199 bales, were submitted. There was a large attendance of buyers representing all the main wool interests. The wool opened up in good condition, being generally sound and fairly light in condition. A fair amount of dust and discolouration, however, was noticeable in many of the clips owing to the dry spring and the hoggets were rather less well grown than usual and inclined to be thin in the staple. A good deal of interest attached to this sale, as it was the first offering of fine wools of any size held in the Dominion this season. Although recent reports from London have had a more cheerful tone, there has not been any great appreciation in values there from the very low rates ruling in the September series. Pricesfor half-bred wools sold to-day can be quoted distinctly dearer than London parity and competition was more spirited and general than had been anticipated. Average conditioned wools, hoavever, appear reasonable as compared with varieties,, and many quite good lots were only bringing from 12d to 13d. Super light conditioned halfbreds, especially deep grown hoggets, met with spirited competition from an American representative and Dawson and Co., who were supposed to be buying for Russia, but may also have been acting for America. These lots, in some cases, realised extreme values as compared with other sorts, and up to 182 d was paid during the day. Three-quarter-bred and cross bred wools sold freely, and taking condition into account prices for these appear to be oh a pai’ with recent North Island sales. Pieces and bellies most went to French representatives at fair values though no fancy prices were paid, and they also competed well for suitable fleece wools. Bradford buyers were a little spasmodic, but several of their buyers made fair purchases. Growers met the market well, and about 90 per cent of the offering was sold at auction. We ourselves offered an attractive catalogue of 3,500 bales and, although we sold last, we made a very good clearance with prices oh a parity with earlier catalogues.
