CHINESE WARFARE
STRUGGLE FOR CANTON. (By Cable—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Received December 4, 8 a.m.) LONDON, December 3. Hongkong reports 'state that last night the initial fighting for the possession of Canton commenced in earnest. Wounded are arriving at Canton. Reinforcements are being rushed to the Cantonese front in order to strengthen the resistance. The Kwangsi forces have been steadily advancing on Canton during the last few days, in conjunction with Nanking’s Ironsides.
REGIMENT MUTINIES. (Recd. December 4, 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, December 3. The non-payment of .wages coupled with the dislike of the order to proceed with the, Cantonese to fight the revolting Ironside troops, precipitated a mutiny in a regiment of the Twenty Fourth division of the Nationalist army, commanded by General Shisyusan, at Pukeow opposite Nanking to-day. The soldiers are looting the shops in the principal streets and fleeing to the surrounding districts. Other troops i have been called in to quell the mutiny, resulting in considerable shooting on the outskirts of Pukeow. A number of civilians wer.e killed and several houses were \ burned.. The Fukow-Nanking ferry service has been suspended.
